Great! Lots of diagrams and practical analogies.
I've read it twice. Great for those interested in physics but who are not physicists. Well written. Book builds your knowledge chapter by chapter. Lots of thought problems to check your understanding. Diagrams are very helpful and plentiful. Covers theories preceding and superceding theories of relativity. Very good explanation of string theory.

By far the best book on the basics of relativity.
Simply put, this is the best book on relativity (special and general) currently available. Anybody can read it: shoe salesmen, physics students, whatever. It includes a very small number of elementary equations (on the scale of things like distance = velocity times time) and yet manages to convey the essence of the general theory of relativity to the reader. It certainly dispels the aura of mystery around this quite simple theory and when you have finished reading this slim book you'll be able to effectively argue with advanced physics students (hey, I'm an advanced physics student and, believe me, you know _alot_ after reading this!). Too bad Mr. Epstein hasn't also written such a book on Quantum Mechanics or Field Theory, where the inaccessibility of the texts for most people is legendary. Thus, in short: buy this book, you'll love it.

Ideal introduction to relativity
I owe a lot to this book. I've since gone on to read more advanced books on relativity, quantum physics, and string theory. What makes this book special is that it will make relativity an intuitive concept. As relativity is a foundation for so many other things, I needed a book which would give me a rock solid foundation. The book made relativity so simple that a child would understand it. And not only understand it, but be utterly convinced that it is correct. I now understand how relativity works about as well as I do the law of conservation of energy, as an example.
After you read this, you will want to move on, and I recomment "Quantum Reality". It's not simple like this book, though. I haven't found any books that do for quantum physics what Epstien does for relativity.

The BEST Oz book ever!
If you want an Oz book that is fun to read to yourself or to children, this is the ticket! Page after page, I said to myself "this is just darling!" Toto is America's favorite canine and The Wizard of Oz is the most endearing movie of all time. I am so glad that Willard Carroll put this book together it is just terrific.

Hollywood's Golden Era is captured so well as you easily travel through page after page. I promise that you won't put it down until you're finished and the kids (especially the ones who watch the movie on a daily basis) will love for you to read this to them.

Congratulations to Author Carroll, who has Oz in his heart and soul and managed to put it down on paper for all of us to enjoy. How many times I've watched that movie and simply focused on Toto, who was just the cutest dog in the world. He makes everybody want to adopt him, well, now this is the next best thing.

sweet little book
I read this in an evening. Really enjoyed it as I am the owner of 2 Cairns and a lifelong fan of the Wizard of OZ.

I, TOTO is a darling book!
Written from Toto's perspective this book gives you an insight into what really would have been going through this little dogs mind. It not only captures his thoughts but is a good source of valuable information on THE dog of OZ. It is a book that should be read to or by all children who love this movie.

Jenny Carroll's done it again. This exciting and hilarious addition to her Mediator series, Reunion was hard to put down and very pivotal in the series. Suze has adjusted to her new life in Northern California. Her best friend Gina is at her house for a few weeks now, and she's thrilled. But that's when the trouble starts one sunny summer day. After a tragic car accident, four high school students who were killed aren't exactly ready to leave the world yet -- their ghosts are still angry at the kid who got them killed, and they won't let everyone's favorite mediator, Suze, get in their way. But there's Michael Meducci, whom Suze is having a hard time getting around. Michael Meducci is a prodigal geek, but he's very different than what he appears. He tends to have a split personality -- and a split look. Suze is very interested in Michael's behavior, and she also has to deal with the four high school students, who were called the "RLS Angels" where they came from. Suze thinks she's gotten everything under control, but she is in for a lot of danger -- and so are those she loves and cares about. The Mediator #3: Reunion was undoubtedly the most page turning and funniest book in Jenny Carroll's witty and scary series, but not the best. This series is so thrilling and so much fun to read, I don't want it to ever end.

Deadly popularity...

But when four ghosts show up, the ghosts of four good-looking, popular, athletic, academic, envied high school seniors, the fun starts to slide downhill. That's because Suze Simon is a mediator. It's her job to help guide ghosts to the afterlife, wherever it might be. Unfortunately, these four star students (nicknamed the RLS Angels, the RLS meaning Robert Louis-Stevenson High School, which they attended) will not depart to their next life until they destroy the one person who they believe killed them. This geeky, unpopular, bully-magnet boy from Suze's school: Michael Meducci. In the car wreck which took the RLS Angels' lives away, Michael was coming around the corner and caused them to swerve off a cliff onto a small beach, to be washed out to sea. They won't stop at anything to get revenge, and they aren't afraid to kill others along the way. Suze and Father Dominic, another mediator, aren't convinced that Michael Meducci, who is one of the top students in the entire school, could have planned to make them drive off a cliff. He doesn't have a motivation. Does he? This book was thilling, and hilarious! It was great to have another adventure with Susannah, Jesse, Father Dominic, and the rest of the characters. I can't wait for Darkest Hour, book four...

Go Jenny Carroll!
In Reunion Suze is as happy as someone like her can be. The reason: Gina has landed! Suze plans on making Gina's visit as great as possible filling it with fun, the beach, and cute guys. But of course Suze's plans end up changing. That is because the ghosts of four young people have showed up demanding revenge on the nerd who they think killed them. Seeing as these ghosts won't listen to her Suze has no choice but to protect "mega nerd" Michael Meducci. But one night while talking to the ghosts and checking out the crime scene Suze starts to think that maybe their deaths weren't accidental after all. And if this is true then Suze's life not to mention her friends and family's lives are in more danger than ever.

ANOTHER GREAT BOOK. Man I love this series. Ooh and we hear another intersting fortune from Madame Zara!

Wonderful character book for young people
The book, "Dandelion Cottage", was read to each of our family members by our fifth grade teacher (she taught all 5 of us kids at a wonderful grade school in the 1940's, 50's and early 60's). She set aside time during the week to read aloud some portion of this exciting, strong character book to us. I can remember so well the time spent sitting in that classroom and listening to her read to us. This is a book that all young people should have the opporunity to read and enjoy.

A Piece of My Family
Reading Dandelion Cottage is like looking at my great-great grandmother and actually knowing her. My grandmother's family was from Marquette and then later relocated to Georgia. As I was growing up I was always told about The Dandelion Cottage and however fictionalized, the characters were modeled after my great-great grandmother and her friends. It's wonderful to know that through the reprint, that the book won't go lost.

Even better than I remembered.
My daughter is 39, but it's not too late for her to read this book -- as my mother and I both did as children. What a thrill to find it. The Marquette Historical Society should be commended for reprinting it. It's interesting to see that in 1904 there were books written with strong female characters. Anne of Green Gables and Jo March were not that unusual. Now, if I could just find a copy of "Stump Village".

Heavenly communications for Earthly Beings - Excellent
Kryon - or rather - 'The Kryon' are a collective energy directing the present consciousness towards the coming 'frequency shift'. The book is well structured and wonderfully informed. I found the style a little awkward and would have preferred it in a more accessible form. Personally, I would have liked to see it more in the form of the wonderful and inspiring "The Autobiography of Jesus of Nazareth and the Missing Years" by Richard G. Patton, where profound spiritual truths are presented within an everyday reference. Althouth the information contained in this book all 'rang' true, I did find it hard for the conscious mind to digest. It is well worth the investment in time to read and digest.

A door-opening, consciousness-shifting miracle
This book, and the entire Kryon book series, have the potential to speed up the consciousness of Earth in natural, incredible ways. The information given is among the most useful I've come across anywhere.

If you're one who strives to become more conscious and enlightened in your life - one who isn't satisfied with anything less than the HIGHEST TRUTH about Earth, your life and the *big picture* - I happily and lovingly admonish you to read this and all books in the Kryon series, for they will help facilitate tremendous knowledge and wonderous consciousness shifts within you...changes far beyond the level of you day-by-day existence.

Excellent information, helpful tips for the new millenium
The first time you read this book you will have the feeling that Kryon is speaking directly to you, through the voice of his channel, Lee Carroll.
Although this book was first published in 1992, the information presented here is more relevant now than ever. Kryon will give the reader knowledge about Karma, meditation, Jesus Christ and the times we are living. With the premise that we all came here on our own will, to learn and progress, Kryon leads the way on the transformation we crave in this new millenium. He will help you contact your guides and accelerate you spirituial growth, if that is what you relly want.
If you are a metaphysician or are into self growth, you will find that the easy, yet warm language and teaching of Kryon apply to your life.

Another exciting edition to the series
Suze is not your normal sixteen year old girl. She is a mediator---a person who guards wayward souls(ghost)back to where they should be. Of course being a mediator also causes some social problems for Suze. After moving to California, so far for Suze things have been a fab. Even the hottest guy in town, Tad Beaumont, asked her out! Everything couldn't be better. That is until the ghose of a dead woman shows up in the middle of the night and scream for Suze to find a guy named "Red" and tell him he isn't responsible for her death. Tracking down a murderer is pretty hard but when things lead to "Red" Beaumont, Tad's dad thing get alittle tricker. After not listening to Father Dominick, a fellow Mediator, who also happens to be Suze's principal, Suze goes all by herself to see Red only to find out he might be a vampire. Things get even crazier as Suze digs deeper into the mystery and finds out about coverups, mysterious disappearances, and a web of deceit.

Another good edition to the Mediator series. A lot of unexpected twists and turns and I like Jesse and Suze a lot!

Ninth Key
One night Susannah Simon is trying to get at least a couple of hours of sleep when a screaming ghost of a dead woman wakes her up. When she finally speaks, she begs Suze to tell Red that he didn't kill her. Suze finds out that Red is the father of the only boy that has ever asked her out. When she confronts Red Beaumont he seems surprised to know that the ghost didn't accuse him of murder and for some strange reason he keeps on looking at her neck and the cross hanging around it. Father Dominic tells her that Red Beaumont is a vampire and to not mess with him but does Suze listen, of course not. Suze does some investigating to find out there may be more to Red Beaumont's Company than everyone thinks. But someone knows what Suze's up to and will do anything to keep her quiet. This was a great book and I can't wait for Reunion to come out in June.

The Mediator #2: Ninth Key
Suze Simon has finally started relaxing in her life after she's just moved to Northern California. But for a while now not too many ghosts have been bothering her. She's finally happy. This ghost wants Suze to tell Mr. 'Red' Beaumont that he didn't kill her. When Mr. Beaumont knows this, the ghost will finally be satisfied -- and happy. But when Suze finally does manage to get to 'Red' Beaumont -- a multimillionaire living in a breathtaking mansion -- things begin to become more then weird. Not only is Suze's life in danger, but she's about to face an enemy she can't see -- along with a man thinking he's a vampire -- and all she ever tried was to help a ghost. Suze is about to face the battle of her life -- and it just may take more then her mediation skills to save herself this time. Ninth Key was a great second book in the phenomenal The Mediator series by Jenny Carroll, with scares and laughs galore.

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner/the Hunting of the Snark

Exquisite!


This small volume is a treasure. In hardcover, the pages are silver, the dark blue typography is a beautiful old-style Roman, perhaps Garamond or Times, good-sized and leaded out for easy readability. And the illustrations are unsurpassed.

First, the illustrator: Gustave Dore was born in 1832, sixty years after the birth of Coleridge. He died in 1883. Coleridge preceded him in death by 49 years. Coleridge was born in 1772 and died in 1834. Dore was born in Strasbourg, and was a renowned illustrator who was doing lithographs at the age of thirteen.

The fact that Dore was a near contemporary of Coleridge is important because we can be assured that the characters' costumes in his illustrations reflect the actual dress of the time Coleridge was describing. The ships also are correctly drawn and beautifully detailed.

To say that his illustrations complement this classic epic poem is an understatement.

As to the poet, some wag said once of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, that "a half-great poet had a wholly great day." I have also heard that Coleridge is supposed to have written his epic in one sitting, in a great burst of inspiration. I can't vouch for that, but it is truly a masterpiece--of that there can be no doubt.

I recall trying to memorize it when I was in high school, about sixty years ago. I loved it then, and I still do now.

For the price, this book is an absolute steal. No library is complete without this poem, and of all the renditions I've seen of it, this is by far the most beautiful.

"Water, water everywhere...
And all the boards did shrink. Water, water, everywhere, nor any drop to drink." These famous lines, like the opening lines of Coleridge's Kubla Khan, are often quoted, but I sometimes wonder if the people who quote them have read this wonderful poem. The poem is full of mystery and horror, from the Mariner stopping the wedding guest, to the incident w/ the albatros, to the gambling of Death and Death-In-Life... I could go on and on. The language is so rich, and the poet's comments make the content more clear for anyone who becomes confused. The illustrations of this edition are beautiful and definately complement the text. This is a haunting poem that you will want to read again and again. If you have not read it before, do yourself a favor and find a copy.

Beautiful woodcuts bring vivid imagery to this great poem
I have to disagree with the bad rap this poem often gets. Sure, Coleridge's 4-3-4-3 meter is simple and easily imitable, but that does not change the fact that he used the meter masterfully, that his verse is beautiful and his imagery splendid (even without the woodcuts). The story is fairly simple, though its effect is somewhat chilling. Yes, I've even heard the Mariner compared to Popeye with a dead bird around his neck. But all joking aside, this is a beautiful poem.

On the surface, this may just seem to be a simple poem by an English Romantic. But there is so much more. There is a lesson to be learned, one of respect for God's creatures and for all of creation. This is certainly a Romantic point of view, and Coleridge puts it forth very nicely in this poem.

This is a great beginning poem for novices of poetry, for beginners and for people who dislike poetry if it doesn't rhyme and have a definite rhythm. This is definitely Coleridge's best poem, one that everyone should be familiar with. This version with the woodcuts makes for a very attractive package--the illustrations add nicely to the poems overall effect.

A good introduction to an important New-Age thinker.
I recommend The Journey Home to anyone interested in New-Age thought. It is easy to read, being told as the story of a young man's spiritual search. In only 245 pages it presents the philosophy of Kryon and Lee Carrol, one of the most important New-Age sources. I think most people would gain something valuable for their personal lives from reading this book. I certainly did.

A Loving read
Sometimes you feel like you've been there done that and you probably have. Then again there are some parts of the story that you feel you need to go there do that. A beautiful book.

No Better Truth! A Wonderful, Sacred Text Filled With Truth
I have never read a book so filled with truth to help one one the journey home, the journey to wholeness. I couldn't put it down! I found myself talking to Michael Thomas, understanding how he was feeling every step of his journey. We all have to make this journey at one time or another. You'll laugh and cry as it hits home with you and answers your questions about awakening to enlightenment. He took the high road and I took the low road, but we both ended up in the same place with the same revelations about ourselves in our relationship to God and all that is.

If you haven't read this book, you're missing the journey of your lifetime. Get to it & enjoy!

The Granny

THE DEAREST OF FRIENDS
With a mingling of joy and sorrow, I have completed the gift of Brendan O'Carroll's trilogy of the Agnes Browne family. I wish these books could go on forever, they are that lovely.

"The Granny" is steeped in beautiful sentiment that is this family. The lives of the Browne brood as adults are examined, winding the reader down many streets of promises, with painful detours along the journey. The telling of their tales is vintage O'Carroll, rich with humor, drama, and the fragile aspects of life that makes it honest.

Give yourself a wonderous treat and buy the trilogy. Like me, you will become enthralled with this family, marred by flaws, detoured by mistakes, but enduringly loving. I adored these books, and can only hope Brendan O'Carroll will take pity on his fans and write more sequels!!!

This was the perfect ending to a great trilogy
The Granny was great. It wasn't overdone and had just th right mixture to finish off this great trilogy without letting you down.

Brendan O'Carroll did a spectaular job, again. He giave us just the right mixture of laughter and tears. Again you were on the edge of your seat wondering what would be next. There were a few items that he illuded to but you knew the out come of each illusion before he let on and you were ok with that it make you feel smarter and like a member of the family.

As with the other book the ending was perfect, simple, sweet and honest. There are no Hollywood endings here and not everything happens the way you think it should.

Buy all the books at the same time and become a member of the Browne clan. It's worth the trip.

Completion Of The Perfect Trilogy
Mr. Brendan O'Carroll has created with, "The Mammy", "The Chisellers", and, "The Granny", a trilogy that is exceptionally well written, a joy to read, and an alternative Irish Tale. I differentiate this work from the more familiar read about an Irish Family, for while the life of this Family is far from perfect, it is not extreme in its portrayal of the darker sides of people, be they Irish, or in the case of this book, French or Jewish as well. Of the three books this could be noted as the one that brings events together too neatly, especially when a given outcome is positive. I believe this appraisal would be unfair, as the Author balances the experiences of his characters, and even if he had favored the positive, why would that be deserving of scorn?

This book does bring certain threads of the story to a conclusion. The Author could easily continue the stories of this Family, or a given member, but the trilogy; I believe should stand by itself.

Once again the third book takes place when additional time has passed. The Browne Children are children no longer, and with offspring of their own the cycle begins again with the newest of the Brownes. Agnes transitions from Mammy to Granny, as her children take their place as Mammies and Dads to children of there own. Some of the new Families are traditional, some less so, however as in the previous two books while ignorance and the ugly behavior it breeds is not hidden, overall acceptance and tolerance are great virtues of this man's work.

The three works are as close to faultless storytelling as I have read, and I hope I can look forward to many more books by this Author. He will have a tremendous challenge to repeat this success, but as he has done it three times in succession, waiting for additional novels should not be a wait in vain.

If you come to the end of this book and your eyes are not at least full, see your Doctor. Your tear ducts are clogged.

"Finally, A History As Christ Would Write It"
In this age of scathing biblical criticism and rigorous historical objectivity it is definately a relief to find someone writing history from a theocentric point-of-view. Warren H. Carroll makes way for Christ and His Church through a general overview of history starting with man's earliest encounters with God all the way to the establishment of Christendom by Constantine the Great. A thorough account of the life of Christ is given along with a clear, detailed narrative defining the Apostles' missions at home and abroad, the steadfast character of Christianity under persecution, and the pride of the Roman Empire giving way to the conquering humility and ethics of Christianity. An eloquent summation of both the New and Old Testaments are treated with strong and convincing answers to modern criticism - Carroll's colorful storyline mixed with brilliant Christian apologetics makes this an excessively convincing read...there are four books in this series currently in print, two more presently in the making.

Well written history of Christianity to time of Constantine
Warren Carroll is one of the most amazing historians I have ever read. Unashamedly and unapoligetically Catholic, he also has an incredible amount of learning under his belt, without ever sounding pedantic. For example, his bibliography has a short summary note under each & every book entry. He is also incredibly opinionated, sometimes in opposition to all other scholarly writers. Sometimes right, sometimes ridiculous, always interesting. I can't recommend anything by this author highly enough, and I have read about everything he has published.

Thoroughly documented and well researched.
I have never read a history book more thoroughly researched and documented. Just reading the footnotes alone will give the reader a new insight into the history of Judaism and Christianity. I look forward to reading the continuing volumes by Warren H. Carroll on the history of Christendom.
